Zusammenfassung:	Medical practices characterize human societies and have been suggested to originate from observing the behavior of other animals. Mascaro and colleagues report that chimpanzees apply insects to their own and the open wounds of other conspecifics, thereby adding to the current debate on self-medicative and prosocial behaviours in nonhuman animals.
