Abstract: Digitalization and the use of digital technologies entail not only many advantages and accompanying potential, but at the same time, they also pose risks for firms. Given the urgency and need to ensure digitalization, firms are launching digital transformation initiatives to address the formulation of digital business strategies as one of their first steps. For a successful digital transformation, firms need to merge IT and business strategy, which impacts their structure, culture, leadership roles, and collaboration behavior. Thus, not only to strive but to survive, firms must understand the digitalization phenomena in their business environment and, hence, have to consider and address various dimensions in the transformation process. Therefore, this dissertation presents a strategic framework for utilizing digital technology and analyzes multiple dimensions on the firm and individual level impacting digital transformation success. This dissertation serves as a guide for firms facing digitalization challenges that are willing to understand the phenomenon itself, develop strategically, and want to drive digital transformation successfully. The dissertation is further motivated by highlighting relevant fields of action derived from the strategy and firm dimension enabled by digitalization and its impact on the firm and employee levels.
